The MM2 is dedicated for use with MM and HOMC cartridge types only. Essentially it can be viewed as an improved version of the MM1 with additional power supply enhancements along with extended options for loading, plus damping of resonance peaking and gain in both MM and HOMC modes. It does not allow for the operation of low output moving coil cartridges, for this you will need to use our MC2 which is dedicated to these.
With enough gain for it to be used with passive pre-amplifiers or active pre-amplifiers with unity gain. It has improved internally regulated supplies for each separate section to improve detailing, bass slam, stereo imaging and transparency whilst reducing noise over the MM1. There is also an optional 7Hz warp filter which is internally selectable via jumpers. It also has improved gold plated input and output sockets mounted on an 1.2mm anodised rear panel. We believe that there is nothing to touch this incredible phono stage on the market, for build, flexibility, value or most importantly, sound quality.
It is unique at the price, with its’ fully RoHs compliant gold plated custom made double sided PCB’s , black anodised extruded aluminium case and high quality internal parts like it’s use of 1% thin film melf resistors from Vishay and signal capacitors from Wima and Vishay. The signal to noise is very low at -72dB , this is way below vinyl noise performance. Our psuedo balanced discrete input technology gives you the option to optimise grounding to reduce the possibility of Hum/noise. The circuit topology is based on our unique op-amp based active (for the Bass) and passive (for the treble) RIAA filter which is then followed by a totally buffered output section with a very low output impedance of less than 10 Ohms. This helps to reduce cable effects and improve output current and drive. It will easily drive a 600 Ohm load!!
Uniquely the MM2 not only has user adjustable input loading including 100K/47K/15K/2K2 and 1K to cover ALL types of MM cartridges from Shure to Grado PLUS all high output moving coil types such as those offered by Dynavector, Goldring and Sumiko. But additionally it has options for the damping of resonance peaking. It was interesting that during our research for the MM2 the number of MM and HOMC cartridges who’s performance could benefit for non standard 47K loading. We offer a free advice telephone service to optimise and match the performance with any cartridge when using our MM2 or MC3 phono stages.
Attention to detail also extends to the dedicated custom made outboard power supply which is supplied as part of the package, with its use of a split rail design benefits from using + and - DC power outputs for maximum rejection of RF noise, maximum dynamic range and improved overload margin. It also uses a gold plated custom made PCB with high quality rectifiers and snubber caps. This is no normal ‘off the shelf’ PSU as used by the competition.....
Not just content with state of the art performance it also has a new pretty face with blue LED and white logo. Black is ‘standard’ but we are also offering to special order Metallic Powder Blue, Lime green and Red/Pink. With these contemporary designs they should fit into even the most fussy or minimalist of interior designs.
